Teal Ribbon Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation, Inc. was created in honor of Kristen Varley. Kristen was diagnosed with stage IIIC ovarian cancer at age 38 in August 2003.

Since her diagnosis, Kristen has taken an active role in helping other women. Kristen has always been dedicated to her family, friends, and career. Now, as an ovarian cancer survivor, she is also committed to sharing her story and stressing the need for a reliable early detection test and treatment.

Ovarian cancer is the leading cause of death of all gynecologic cancers in the United States. In 2006, it was estimated that roughly 20,180 women would be diagnosed with this form of cancer and close to 15,310 would lose their lives to it. Ovarian cancer is an insidious disease that often strikes without warning and without cause.

Currently there is no effective means of early detection. As a result, just over half of all patients are alive and disease free five years after diagnosis. However, if detected and treated early, the five-year survival rate is 95%.

TROCRF was organized exclusively for charitable & scientific purposes, with the goal of raising funds to advance ovarian cancer research towards a cure, advocating for early diagnostic treatment programs and to improve the lives of ovarian cancer survivors.
